News Editors

ADVISORY...

--(BUSINESS WIRE)

CalPERS CalPERS California Public Employees' Retirement System

WHO: California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS)

WHAT: If you drive in downtown Sacramento, your commute may get a
little busier on Q Street. CalPERS is going to start digging
its underground vehicular and pedestrian tunnel that will
connect its 400 P Street Lincoln Plaza home with its new
headquarters expansion between Q and R Streets. The
construction work will reduce traffic lanes to two lanes 24
hours a day and impact pedestrian travel on Q Street.

WHERE: Construction will occur on Q Street between 3rd and 5th
        Streets in downtown Sacramento.

WHEN: Lane reduction begins February 14 and lasts through Summer
        2003.

HELP: To help ease downtown traffic congestion, CalPERS is
offering a status of the project, travel and pedestrian tips,
and alternative driving routes to downtown on its web site at
        www.calpers.ca.gov.

CalPERS is the nation's largest public pension fund, providing
retirement and health benefits to 1.3 million State and local
        public employees and their families.
