 (March 30)

--(BUSINESS WIRE)

WHAT: At the United Way of the Bay Area's second annual
"Youth In Action" Summit, thousands of youth from
300 schools across the Bay Area along with school
                  administration, law enforcement, government
                  officials and youth-serving organizations will
discuss why violence occurs among youth in schools
and how it can be prevented.

The summit will allow students to engage in open
discussions with other students on how school
violence affects them in every day life and develop
possible solutions. The Youth Leadership Council
will present a resource guide to highlight solutions
to students. "Youth In Action" will consist of
                  county-specific workshops, panel discussions,
well-known keynote speakers and a youth agency fair
of 30 youth-serving agencies. United Way of the Bay
Area, Sprint and Sonic Automotive are sponsoring the
                  event.

WHY: In response to recent incidents of school violence,
summit offers Bay Area youth a voice on how violence
affects them locally and offers youth-driven
solutions to ensure safer communities. Program can
be seen as model for other communities, nation-wide.
