WHAT: TheCommunity.com is partnering with Habitat For Humanity for
the First Annual "High Tech Build" in the Bay Area.
Management and staff from the Bay Area's leading high tech
companies will join together to build houses with low-income
families. In addition to contributing sweat and muscle,
participating companies will contribute funds to help cover
materials, contractors and ongoing support of Habitat for
Humanity.
Set to launch in October 2000, TheCommunity.com is a gateway
to community involvement, both locally and globally. Founded
on strong alliances with some of the world's largest
non-profit organizations, TheCommunity.com provides the
means for like-minded people to improve the quality of life
in the world. Habitat for Humanity is a global organization
dedicated to helping low-income people own their homes.
Habitat for Humanity relies on local contributions of
skilled labor, materials and financial contributions in
order to provide affordable homeownership opportunities in
the Bay Area.
WHO: Oracle, Apple, Sun, and Evite.com management and staff are
among the 120 volunteers that will participate. There is
still space available for companies to sponsor volunteer
participation. Experience in home building is not necessary.

WHERE: Three Bay Area locations simultaneously:
1) Redwood City on the Peninsula
2) Hunter's Point, San Francisco
3) Oakland, near the Oakland Airport
WHY: Housing in the Bay Area is among the costliest in the
country, due in part to the high tech boom. By participating
in this build, tech companies are taking hands on
responsibility for helping to ease the housing crunch.
