EVENT: The Splendor of Poland Cultural Events Committee (SOPCEC)
presents San Francisco's Lowiczanie Polish Folk Ensemble in a
concert titled From the Manor to the Marketplace. Lowiczanie
captivates audiences with their authentic, stunning costumes
from the group's famed museum-quality collection, and with
their detailed programs. Their repertoire encompasses dances
that evoke the historical pageantry of the nobility dances of
the gentry -- executed in costumes of velvet, brocade and furs
-- to the earthy, lusty flying polkas from the villages, From
the Manor to the Marketplace is a vibrant production sure to
delight audiences of all ages and nationalities.
Two new choreographies by Lowiczanie's Piotr Lacki will be
debuted. The lively dances from the southeastern Polish
foothills town of Nowy Sacz will include elegant waltzes and
dynamic polkas, while the playful and exuberant "Polka
Warszawska" recalls the light-hearted days in the City of
Warsaw before World War I. Lowiczanie's performance is one of
over 40 cultural events organized by the SOPCEC to coincide
with "Leonardo da Vinci and The Splendor of Poland" Art
Exhibit in San Francisco at the Legion of Honor.
WHEN: Sunday, April 13, 2003 - Doors open at 1:30 p.m.; concert
begins at 2:00 p.m. and ends at 4:00 p.m. Intermission.
