California California (kăl'ĭfôr`nyə), most populous state in the United States, located in the Far West; bordered by Oregon (N), Nevada and, across the Colorado River, Arizona (E), Mexico (S), and the Pacific Ocean (W).  Lottery lottery, scheme for distributing prizes by lot or other method of chance selection to persons who have paid for the opportunity to win. The term is not applicable when lots are drawn without payment by the interested parties to determine some matter, e.g.  


WHAT:             The California Lottery is ready to choose
                  California's "Top Dogs!" The Lottery held
                  preliminary contests statewide and decided on 10
                  finalists from each of four metropolitan areas
                  (Sacramento, San Francisco, San Diego and Los
                  Angeles) to compete in the final contests for a
                  chance to appear on the upcoming "Top Dog"
                  Scratchers ticket.

                  The Southern California finals are being held and
                  will feature the finalists from Los Angeles and San
                  Diego. The Northern California finals were held in
                  January. One dog and one runner up from each city
                  will be chosen to appear on the Scratchers ticket to
                  be introduced later this year.

                  5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

                  celebrities: Star of stage and screen, Lea Thompson;
                  Lauren Woodland, best know as Brittany Hodges from

                  of Beverly Hills; and owner of "The Loved Dog"
                  Company, Tamar Geller.
