WHAT: The Boston College Alumni Association presents the Fifteenth
Annual Second Helping Gala, with the proceeds benefiting The
Greater Boston Food Bank's Second Helping perishable and
prepared food rescue program. Over the past 14 years, the BC
Gala has raised over $1.3 million for The Greater Boston Food
Bank's Second Helping program, making the Boston College
Alumni Association The Food Bank's largest single financial
donor.

WHO: The Second Helping Gala offers an evening of great food, a
live and silent auction, an open bar, entertainment and a
top-of-the-world view of Fenway Park! The Gala is open to the
public and tickets are $100 per person and can be purchased by
calling 617-552-4700.
The Boston College Alumni Association and The Greater Boston
Food Bank founded the Second Helping Program in 1989. This
perishable and prepared food rescue program annually collects
and distributes 207,000 pounds of nutritious, perishable food
that otherwise would have been wasted. With the help of the
Boston College Alumni Association and their on-going
commitment to the program, the proceeds from this event,
provides Second Helping with nearly 159,000 meals to 24
emergency feeding programs throughout eastern Massachusetts
every year.
Second Helping is a critical link between restaurants, hotels,
hospitals, caterers and corporate cafeterias seeking to donate
surplus food to area non-profit shelters feeding the hungry in
Eastern Massachusetts. The program has over 170 participating
donors including, Boston College Dining Services, Sodexho
Marriott, Westin Hotel-Boston, Bread & Circus, Newbury
College, and many local restaurants.
About The Greater Boston Food Bank The Greater Boston Food Bank is a non-profit clearinghouse for donated food, which is distributed to a network of over 800 food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, daycare centers for children at risk, and other charitable feeding agencies throughout nine counties in eastern Massachusetts. The Greater Boston Food Bank is one of New England's largest hunger relief organizations, annually distributing 20 million pounds of food, which is the equivalent of almost 15 million meals.
