ADVISORY/Tensilica's Xtensa Microprocessor Technology Featured Prominently at the Embedded Processor Forum; Presentations Will Detail Xtensa Applications in Advanced Imaging.Business Editors/High-Tech Writers Embedded Processor A CPU chip used in a system other than a general purpose workstation, desktop or laptop computer. Such chips are used by the billions every year in a myriad of products. See embedded system. Forum 2002 ADVISORY... for Tuesday (April 30) --(BUSINESS WIRE)
Who: Tensilica, Inc., the leading provider of configurable and
extensible microprocessor IP for integration into
system-on-chip (SOC) devices.
What: Two presentations detailing Tensilica's Xtensa(R) core in
imaging and face recognition applications:
-- Leo Petropolis, director of applications engineering for
Tensilica, will present, for the first time, technical details
of instruction extensions for the Tensilica(R) Xtensa
processor core that accelerate MPEG-4 performance by 10x.
-- Francesco Lertora, system architect for STMicroelectronics,
the world's third largest independent semiconductor company,
will discuss the technical details of a customized processor
for face recognition. By combining demanding face recognition
algorithms with the Tensilica Xtensa processor core,
STMicroelectronics has developed a complex custom processor
for low-cost embedded applications.
When: Tensilica's paper will take place on Tuesday,
April 30, 2002, Session Three (following lunch).
STMicroelectronics' paper will take place on Wednesday,
May 1, 2002, Session Five (following lunch).
Where: Embedded Processor Forum 2002
San Jose Fairmont
170 South Market Street
