Who/What: Tax season is upon us. Given the current state of the
economy and with millions of dollars of potential
refunds at stake, it is imperative that low-income
workers file income tax returns and understand the
Earned Income Tax Credit and how they may qualify.
Tax-Aid will hold a press conference to discuss its
2003 Tax Preparation Assistance program. Rob Lang,
Partner-in-Charge of Tax Services, KPMG and Chairman
of Tax-Aid; Susan Leal, San Francisco City Treasurer
and Mary Canning, Dean, School of Taxation, Golden
Gate University will provide interviews from 11:30
a.m. - Noon.
Tax-Aid, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, provides
free, professional income tax preparation assistance
to low-income families in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Tax-Aid helps thousands of local residents file their
taxes, and educates these residents about eligibility
for the Earned Income Tax Credit and the Child Tax
Credit, which may significantly increase their tax
refunds.

Background: Last year, Tax-Aid helped over 1,500 low-income Bay
Area taxpayers obtain close to $1.5 million in
refunds. Tax-Aid's goal for 2003 is to serve 2000
families in the San Francisco Bay Area. Services are
free, confidential and provided by volunteer experts.
Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese and Russian translators
are available.
