ADVISORY/Swiss Task Force Head Makes Rare Public Appearance on West Coast To Discuss Switzerland's Conduct During World War II.

WHO/WHAT: Thomas Borer, Switzerland's Ambassador-At-Large and
head of a Task Force to investigate World War II issues,
will speak at a symposium at Whittier Law School this
week. He will present his country's point of view on
Switzerland's treatment of Holocaust victims and the
disposition of their assets.
The program is a response to an earlier Whittier symposium
on March 1 of this year entitled "Nazi Gold And Other
Assets of the Holocaust: The Search for Justice," which
was the first comprehensive presentation of the topic
within the United States.
Also scheduled to speak is Dr. Pierre Braunschweig,
Director, Bureau for Policy Assessments in Berne,
Switzerland and author of a prize-winning book examining
the history of secret Swiss relations with Germany during
World War II. Moderating will be Tom Tugend, West Coast
correspondent for the Jerusalem Post, the Jewish Chronicle
and the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, as well as Contributing
Editor to the Jewish Journal. Commentators will include
Michael Bazyler, a professor of international law at
Whittier Law School; Anita Ramasastry, senior attorney
with Paul Volckers Claims Resolution Tribunal in Zurich
and an international law professor at the University of
Washington School of Law in Seattle; and William Elperin,
President of The "1939" Club, one of the oldest and most
active Jewish Holocaust Survivor organizations in the
country.
