--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
WHAT: Preliminary results of a study involving a new technology
called electronic identification checking will be released in
a workshop called "Youth and DUI: Technology For Preventing
the Sale of Alcohol to Minors," at the California Office of
Traffic Safety 13th Annual Traffic Safety Summit. The
workshop is sponsored by Anheuser-Busch.
WHERE: Westin LAX Hotel
5400 W. Century Blvd., Los Angeles
WHEN: 10:30 a.m.-noon, Wednesday, Oct. 21
WHO: Herb Simpson, president and chief executive officer of the
Traffic Injury Research Foundation, will moderate the
90-minute workshop.
-- More than 600 traffic safety professionals from across
the country will convene at the summit to target the
most-pressing traffic safety issues.
WHY: Electronic ID checking is among the newest ideas to help
fight underage drinking. Electronic ID checking reads the
data encoded on magnetic stripes or bar codes on drivers'
licenses. Nearly two-thirds of states currently use magnetic-
stripe or bar-code technology on their drivers' licenses,
including California.
