OTHER: Steven Cohen, now a senior at University School, founded
Friends For Life in 1996 after learning about a young boy,
Daniel Heidenberg, who died from leukemia at age six.
Wanting to do something for children who were suffering from
cancer and leukemia, Cohen organized and performed a magic
show to raise funds. Those efforts grew, more students got
involved, and Cohen formed Friends For Life. Today, more
than 200 students participate in Friends for Life in
chapters at schools throughout Florida, as well as in
New York and New Jersey. The students raise money for the
Leukemia Society, Make-A-Wish Foundation, and Joe DiMaggio's
Children's Hospital. They also participate in various
community service projects, visiting patients, donating
goods and services, and educating the community about
leukemia and cancer.
