       State Assemblymember Mountjoy to join former major league
   baseball players in presenting Metropolitan Water District award

WHAT:
        The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California's
        Community Partnering Program awards the city of La Verne
        $3,000 for its Water Education Water Awareness Committee's
        video contest.

WHEN:
        7 p.m. Thursday, May 6

WHERE:
        Lutheran High School Gym, 3960 Fruit St., La Verne

WHO:
        Assemblymember Dennis Mountjoy (R-Monrovia); Mayor Jon
        Blickenstaff; La Verne City Councilmember Dan Harden; former
        major league baseball players Bill Russell, Kevin Flora,
        Darrell Miller; and Gilbert Ivey, Metropolitan executive vice
        president

BACKGROUND:
        The award is part of Metropolitan's Community Partnering
        Program, now in its fourth year. The program aims to increase
        public awareness about water issues and policies in Southern
        California. The program's award to the Water Education Water
        Awareness Committee helped fund a water awareness video
        contest geared toward middle and high school students in
        Southern California.

VISUALS:
        Photo opportunities of high school students from six local
        high schools participating in an interactive water trivia game
        hosted by the three former major league baseball players.
        Darrell Miller will emcee the event. Winning high schools to
        be announced and presented with checks. Event also will
        feature a video presentation of the submitted entries.
