WHAT: First International Tchaikovsky Competition Prize Winner Daniel
Pollack will be honored by Steinway & Sons as he celebrates 40
years as a Steinway Artist. Pollack will perform a brief program
celebrating his association with the prestigious Steinway & Sons,
a career that has spanned more than four decades across many
continents throughout the world.
Endorsed by former president Harry S. Truman for a Fulbright
scholarship in Vienna in 1957, Pollack emerged on the classical
concert circuit and soon became one of the leading performers
worldwide. From there he continued to rise to become:
-- The first American pianist to record in the former Soviet
Union under the famous "Melodiya" label
-- The first American pianist to tour the People's Republic of
China in 1980
-- The first American pianist to perform before a Joint Session
of the U.S. Congress at the Truman Centennial Celebration in
1984
-- Served repeatedly as the vice chairman of the International
Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow

BACKGROUND:
A graduate of The Juilliard School of Music in New York,
and trained under the legendary Rosina Lhevinne, herself a top
Russian pianist from the Moscow Conservatory, Daniel Pollack has
performed with nearly all of the world's leading orchestras
including The New York Philharmonic, The Los Angeles
Philharmonic, The Moscow Philharmonic and the St. Petersburg
Philharmonic, and in the world's leading concert halls including
Carnegie Hall, Moscow's Bolshoi Zal, Vienna's Musikverein, and
The Hollywood Bowl. Pollack has appeared as a soloist in the
United States, Europe, Asia, the former Soviet Union, the
Commonwealth of Independent States (Russia), South America and
Africa.
Pollack continues to serve on international competition juries
throughout the world including The Prokofiev, The Rachmaninoff,
and the Queen Elizabeth Piano Competition in Brussels.
