WHAT: Metropolitan Water District board of directors host reception to
      honor African-American leaders in water.

WHEN: Thursday, July 13
      5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

WHERE: Metropolitan headquarters, Courtyard Cafe
       700 N. Alameda St.
       Los Angeles (adjacent to Union Station)

HONOREES: Sen. Kevin Murray (D-Los Angeles)
          U.S. Rep. Juanita Millender-McDonald (D-CA)
          Ezunial Burts, president, Los Angeles Area Chamber of
           Commerce
          Former and current African-American MWD board members

BACKGROUND: The contributions of African-American leaders to the
            reliability and continued protection of Southern
            California's drinking water supply are being recognized by
            Metropolitan's board of directors. A special Life Merit
            Achievement Award also will be presented to artist William
            E. Pajaud, one of several African-American artists whose
            work is part of the Metropolitan art collection displayed
            at its headquarters.

VISUALS: A special exhibit of African art will be on display in the
         building rotunda, representing a variety of media.
