Officially Kick Off Racing Season

WHAT:       The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club (DMTC) and Barona Valley
            Ranch Resort & Casino, the largest sponsor of DMTC, are
            set to launch the Inaugural Celebrity Chapeau Auction.
            This charitable endeavor is a newly incorporated element
            of the duo's multi-year promotional alliance. More than
            two-dozen "A" list celebrities have lent their creative
            talents to design signature hats for the auction and the
            designs will be unveiled at an "Opening Day Hat Fashion
            Preview" to be held at DMTC.

            Participating celebrities include Tobey Maguire, star of
            Seabiscuit (which opens in theaters on July 25th) and
            Spider-man; Chris Cooper, Academy Award(R) winner and star
            of Seabiscuit; Laura Hillenbrand, best-selling author of
            Seabiscuit: An American Legend; Annette Bening, Academy
            Award(R) nominee and San Diego native; Jack O'Brien,
            Tony Award(R) winning director of Hairspray; Thora Birch,
            actress; Drew Brees, San Diego Charger; Ladainian
            Tomlinson, San Diego Charger; Doug Flutie, San Diego
            Charger; Junior Seau, Miami Dolphin; Kim Coles, actress
            and comedian; Paul Rodriguez, actor and comedian; Vivica
            A. Fox, actress; Nancy O'Dell, host of Access Hollywood;
            Mary Hart and Bob Goen, hosts of Entertainment Tonight;
            Bob Costas, Emmy Award(R) winning sportscaster; and Elliot
            Gould, actor.

            The event will also feature the latest in hat fashions
            from designers Diana Cavagnaro of Designer Millinery and
            Fred Belinksi of the Village Hat Shop, who will be on hand
            to offer tips and techniques for adorning a winning hat
            for opening day.

WHY:        A 64-year old tradition, the DMTC's summer racing season
            has attracted hundreds of Hollywood legends. One of Del
            Mar's more recent traditions is the The One & Only Truly
            Fabulous Hats Contest, which attracts hundreds of
            participants every year. The Celebrity Chapeau Auction is
            the newest tradition combining the best of Del Mar, old
            and new. The chapeaus will be on display at DMTC during
            the racing season,  which runs from July 23 through Sept.
            10. Visitors will have an opportunity to bid on the hats
            on www.eBay.com, and proceeds will benefit charities
            designated by the celebrity designers.

WHO:        Event participants include Clifford LaChappa, chairman of
            the Barona Band of Mission Indians; Joe Harper, president
            of the DMTC; Diana Cavagnaro, owner of Designer Millinery;
            and Fred Belinski, owner of the Village Hat Shop.
