The 2000 annual meeting of the Southern Regional Education Board will feature a series of discussions on a new SREB SREB Southern Regional Education Board  series of reports dealing with SREB states' progress in improving education over the last decade.

U.S. Secretary of Education Richard W. Riley, a former SREB chairman, will discuss educational goals at the closing session of the annual meeting. The SREB meeting will begin with a dinner on Sunday, June 18, and will conclude on Tuesday, June 20, at The Greenbrier greenbrier: see smilax.  in White Sulphur Springs White Sulphur Springs, town (1990 pop. 2,779), Greenbrier co., SE W.Va., in the Allegheny Mts. near the Virginia border; settled c.1750. Attending the annual meeting will be SREB members - governors, legislators, and leaders in education and business. West Virginia Gov. Cecil Underwood, SREB chairman, will chair the meeting.

The Educational Benchmarks 2000 series looks at the progress made by the 16 SREB states toward 12 goals adopted by SREB in 1988. Each SREB state has made progress in some areas - such as reducing the dropout (1) On magnetic media, a bit that has lost its strength due to a surface defect or recording malfunction. If the bit is in an audio or video file, it might be detected by the error correction circuitry and either corrected or not, but if not, it is often not noticed by the human  rate and improving teacher education. Even so, no SREB state has achieved fully any of the goals.
