ADVISORY/Senior Minister of Singapore Keynotes Conference on the Media in Asia.

The Honorable Lee Kuan Yew Lee Kuan Yew (lē kwän y, yü), 1923–, prime minister of Singapore (1959–90). , the Senior Minister of Singapore, will be among several diplomats, government leaders, and journalists who will convene in Claremont, Calif. and Los Angeles for a major conference to explore "The Media in East Asia: Press and Politics in Economic Crisis" from Wednesday, Oct. 28 through Friday, Oct. 30.

Conference participants include:

-- Lee Kuan Yew, Senior Minister of Singapore

-- Taizo Watanabe, Japanese ambassador and government spokesman

-- Charles Kartman, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for

East Asian and Pacific Affairs

-- Surin Pitsuwan, Foreign Minister of Thailand

National Economic and Social Development Board

-- Michael Parks, editor, Los Angeles Times Los Angeles Times

The conference is sponsored by Claremont McKenna College A member of the Claremont Colleges, Claremont McKenna College is a small, highly selective, private coeducational, liberal arts college enrolling about 1100 students with a curricular emphasis on government, economics, and public policy. , Pomona College, The Pacific Basin Institute, UCLA's Asia Pacific Media Network, and The Japan Times.
