Background: The SPAM Museum SnowMN statue is part of Minnesota's
first annual "Roamin' for SnowMN" program - a statewide art
project designed to unite communities, celebrate winter and
stimulate tourism throughout the state. A limited number of
SnowMN statues, designed and painted by Minnesota artists,
community groups and businesses, will be on display in various
communities this winter.
In addition to promoting tourism and benefiting the state's
economy, the SnowMN will raise money for Minnesota charities.
When the statues are sold via auction in March 2003, the
proceeds will benefit Children's Hospitals and Clinics in
Minneapolis and charities in each SnowMN's community. The SPAM
Museum SnowMN will benefit the Welcome Center in Austin.
Austin-based Hormel Foods opened the SPAM Museum in September
2001. Since then, nearly 100,000 people from around the world
have visited the interactive, 16,500-square- foot southern
Minnesota landmark.
