She promised her classmates she would make her Broadway debut by her tenth birthday. Katie would have kept that promise, but that year her tenth birthday happened to be on a Monday. And Broadway shows are dark on Mondays. On Tuesday, one day after her tenth birthday, Kate took over the role of Jessie Oakley opposite Bernadette Peters in the Broadway revival of Annie Get Your Gun. Katie Neil, age 14, did not begin her show business career like most children. She made her acting debut at the age of eight with the Royal Shakespeare Company in Hamlet at the Kennedy Center in her hometown of Washington, DC. Next she appeared in the Washington Opera's Boris Godunov (Placido Domingo, Artistic Director) followed by the Nutcracker with the Stanislavksi Ballet, both at the Kennedy Center. Elegies (エレジーズ , Pageant) urged Kate to seek out an agent in New York City. At the end of that year, Katie and her family moved to New York City. Within two months Katie landed a role in her first Broadway show. While performing on Broadway, Katie appeared in a number of other theatrical events working with such show business veterans as Eartha Kitt, Bebe Neuwirth, Sandy Duncan, Polly Bergen and Rita Moreno. She was also featured on the Broadway Kids recording of America Sings. After sixth grade graduation from New York's Professional Children's School Professional Children's School is an independent day school enrolling 210 students in grades 6-12. Located in Manhattan, a few blocks from Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, the school provides a college-preparatory education to young people preparing for, or already pursuing, , Katie made her pop music debut, Katie K. Beyond Broadway, at one of New York's best-known cabarets, Don't Tell Mama Don't Tell Mama is a piano bar and cabaret located at 343 West 46th Street (Restaurant Row) in New York City. In September 2002, Katie moved to Villanova, PA. with her dad and step mom, Suzanne. In November 2002 she made her Philadelphia stage debut as Mary Lennox, the lead, in the musical The Secret Garden at the Media Theater. Just before Christmas 2002, a family friend sent a recording of a few songs Katie had recorded the year before in New York City to veteran songwriter and producer Cliff Downs. Cliff invited Katie to visit his studio in Franklin, Tennessee in January 2003. Four months and eleven songs later, Katie's first solo pop CD, How I Feel, was completed. Of the eleven songs recorded, six were written by the new songwriting team of Cliff Downs and Katie Neil. Each song tells a story based on Katie's life, experiences and friendships. At the age of thirteen Katie founded her own publishing company, Katie Neil Publishing.
