ADVISORY/Report Claims Hispanic Education Gap Exists.

Business Editors

ADVISORY...

--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 18, 2001
TOPIC: "Education=Success," a report co-sponsored by the Hispanic Association
of Colleges and Universities (HACU) and the Educational Testing Service claims
that while 41% of non-Hispanic white young people go to college in the USA,
only 22% of Hispanic youths go, said a story by USA TODAY. The report says
potential reasons for the education gap include poverty, language barriers, low
literacy rates among parents, and young people leaving school to get jobs to
help support their families, the story said. The report estimates that
narrowing the education gap could raise the income levels of Hispanic families
with resulting salaries adding up to $130 billion to the U.S. economy annually
and $46 billion to annual tax revenues, the story said. EXPERTS: ExpertSource
