WHAT: A moderated roundtable forum hosted by Experiant
focused on Intellectual Property and the Future of
Internet Television. The event will examine the issues
surrounding the adoption of new technologies by
consumers for viewing entertainment and the legal and
intellectual property rights issues surrounding
commercial redistribution of broadcast content.
WHO: David Simon, founder and chief executive officer of
RecordTV, a Web-based virtual VCR service. RecordTV
enables users to log in, click on the name of any TV
show broadcasted nationwide, record the broadcast and
then any time after the show has aired, come back to
the Web site and view the recorded broadcast using a
Windows media player. RecordTV had 100,000 registered
users before the MPAA and law firms representing 12
media corporations temporarily shut down the service.
John Genga is an entertainment intellectual property
attorney and partner with Paul, Hasting, Janofsky
& Walker LLP. In addition, Genga writes a monthly
entertainment law column for the Los Angeles Daily
Journal. He has also written articles on Napster and
MP3.
Nancy Hughes (moderator) -- A journalist for a
variety of entertainment trades, including the
Hollywood Reporter, Kid Screen and Playback. Hughes
has written extensively both on- and offline about the
effects of technology on entertainment.
