unveiling the nation's largest mixed-use

development project

This Monday, October 23, 2000 at 5:00 p.m., more than 500 San Franciscans will ring in Mission Bay, San Francisco's newest neighborhood along San Francisco Bay San Francisco Bay, 50 mi (80 km) long and from 3 to 13 mi (4.8–21 km) wide, W Calif.; entered through the Golden Gate, a strait between two peninsulas. . This development covers 303 acres and is the largest mixed-use land development project in the nation - as well as San Francisco's last remaining sizeable development. Mission Bay features a campus for the University of California, San Francisco Coordinates:   (UCSF UCSF University of California at San Francisco ) in addition to corporate, science and technology campuses, residential communities, neighborhood retail stores, many new parks, various recreational amenities and a hotel.

Currently UCSF is under construction, while the luxury and affordable housing developments of Avalon Bay and Mission Housing, respectively, will break ground this fall.

The celebration has a block-party theme and the evening's activities include:
-- Remarks by Nelson Rising, Mayor L. Brown, Jr. and representatives from UCSF,
Avalon Bay and Mission Housing

-- Taking the first ceremonial shovels of soil from the site

-- A multi-media show

-- Dancing to the sounds of Pride and Joy

-- Full catered sampling menu and bar

-- Tented, heated grounds for enjoying the evening
