It is a designated Pennsylvania Scenic River. by signing the Schuylkill Action Network Constitution on Monday, May 3. The ceremony will begin at 10:00 a.m., culminating with the signing of the constitution at 10:45. Among other things, the constitution asserts "The people of the Schuylkill River watershed, including generations yet to come, have a right to safe drinking water drinking water supply of water available to animals for drinking supplied via nipples, in troughs, dams, ponds and larger natural water sources; an insufficient supply leads to dehydration; it can be the source of infection, e.g. leptospirosis, salmonellosis, or of poisoning, e.g. , a river that is a recreational and economic resource and a watershed that sustains healthy habitats for all life in this region." The Schuylkill River and its tributaries provide drinking water for approximately 1.75 million people.
