WHAT: "Spirit of Community" award presentation for Greater Houston
area student volunteers. The Prudential Spirit of Community
Awards program, a partnership with the National Association of
Secondary School Principals (NASSP), honors outstanding
student volunteer efforts.
VISUAL OPPORTUNITIES:
State Honorees Kevin Kalra, 17, and Kristin Farris, 14, both
of Houston, will be recognized as the State's top winners
and Texas' representatives at the national awards ceremony
in Washington, D.C. on May 3, 2004.
Approximately 75 Local Honorees, accompanied by their parents,
teachers and school administrators, will be honored for
their volunteer efforts in the Greater Houston community
with a gift and certificate of recognition.
Honored Guest Speaker
Mayor Bill White, City of Houston, will speak on the
importance of community service and youth volunteerism as he
addresses honorees and guests during the reception.

About The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards Program The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards is a nationwide program honoring young people for outstanding acts of volunteerism. Camp Fire USA is a nationwide youth organization that began on March 17, 1910 as Camp Fire Girls. The organization has been co-ed since 1975 and has youth from pre-kindergarten through age 21. councils and Volunteer Centers were also eligible to nominate student volunteers for the awards program. All local honorees were reviewed by state-level judges, who selected state honorees and distinguished finalists based on criteria such as personal initiative, creativity, effort, impact and personal growth.
