DETAILS:
Founded in 1979 by the The Hyatt Foundation, the prize takes
its name from the Pritzker family whose international business
interests are headquartered in Chicago. This is the 25th
anniversary of the Pritzker Architecture Prize, generally
acknowledged throughout the world as architecture's highest
honor. The ceremony honoring the 2003 Laureate will be held on
May 20 in Madrid, Spain, at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts and
will be presided over by His Majesty King Juan Carlos I.

PURPOSE:
The purpose of the prize is to honor annually a living
architect whose built work demonstrates a combination of those
qualities of talent, vision and commitment, which has produced
consistent and significant contributions to humanity and the
built environment through the art of architecture. It has
often been described as "architecture's most prestigious
award" or as "the Nobel of architecture."
