What: For the second straight year, Drexel and MCP
Hahnemann Universities will pay tribute to
Philadelphia's Italian-American community with a
float in the annual Columbus Day parade. The white
float, which is themed "Come and Discover MCP
Hahnemann and Drexel Universities," will be
festively decorated with bright red, green, and
white bunting.
Joining Papadakis on the parade route along South
Broad Street will be Drexel Trustee Mel Baiada and a
contingent of nearly 30 Drexel and MCPHU students
and Drexel cheerleaders. Additionally, there will be
Drexel and MCPHU students walking along the float
with signs and United States and Italian flags. The
Drexel/MCPHU float is No. 11.
Where: The staging area for the parade is at Broad and
Washington streets. The parade route begins at Broad
and Reed streets and travels south to Broad and
Bigler streets.
When: Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000; Staging begins at 10:30;
Parade kicks off at 12:30 p.m.
Who: Fresh off his trip to Rome, Italy, for the
canonization of St. Katharine Drexel, Papadakis, who
is native to Greece, should nevertheless feel right
at home since his mother is a native of Padua,
Italy, and he speaks Italian fluently... Drexel
Trustee Mel Baiada, a fellow Italian-American and
founder and CEO of the Mt. Laurel, N.J.-based
Bluestone Software, Inc.
Visuals: A colorfully decorated float adorned with a white
banner urging spectators to "Come and Discover MCP
