WHAT: Digital TV Zone Activities Underway Throughout Portland. On
January 28, 2002 Mayor Vera Katz, the National Association of
Broadcasters (NAB) and the Consumer Electronics Association
(CEA) announced Portland as a Digital TV Zone. Ongoing
activities and updates include:
Digital Landmarks have been installed throughout the city, so
residents and visitors in Portland can now experience Digital
TV first hand at the following locations:
-- Rose Garden Arena (Samsung HDTV set in the main concourse
in front of the Garden Club Restaurant)
-- Portland City Hall (Zenith HDTV set in lobby area)
-- Oregon History Center (Sony HDTV set in lobby at main
entrance)
A Portland Digital Family has been selected to represent
Portland in a true-to-life HDTV in-home experience. The
Digital Family will document and record their life with an
HDTV for 30 days.
MEDIA OPPORTUNITIES INCLUDE:
-- Live remotes can be set up at these locations should
broadcast news media be interested in producing Digital
TV Zone follow up stories.
-- Live remote or camera crews can cover Digital Family
installation
-- NAB and CEA executives, as well as Digital Landmarks
representatives and Digital Family Search winners are
available for interviews.

NEXT UP: Watch Parties are being planned, so residents and visitors
can be part of a major high-definition television event.
Watch Parties will take place at various participating bars
and restaurants throughout the city including Champion's
Restaurant & Sports Bar at the Portland Marriott Downtown.
