--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Second annual Silicon Valley study reports region's growth at
critical turning point and local governments hold key to future
To continue as leader of the Internet Economy, Silicon Valley must
aggressively address internal growth challenges, according to Internet
Cluster Analysis 2000, the second annual report from Joint Venture:
Silicon Valley Network and A.T. Kearney. The new study, which focuses
on the globalization of the Internet economy, reports that local
governments in the U.S. and around the world have become a critical
agent in attracting and nurturing Internet businesses.
A panel of distinguished public and private sector leaders will
convene on Wednesday, October 11, 2000 to discuss the survey's
findings and its implications for Silicon Valley and other Internet
cluster regions. The issues they will address include:
-- What growth model will enable Silicon Valley to maintain its
dominance, but not put additional strain on quality of life,
affordable housing and traffic?
-- What are the most important choices Silicon Valley has to make to
manage its growth?
-- How should the region address emerging problems like the widening
digital divide and chronic workforce shortage?
-- What initiatives can local governments undertake, individually and
in aggregate, to ensure that the current vibrant economic climate
continues to flourish?
-- What can other Internet cluster regions learn from Silicon Valley?
