EVENT: Joined by environmental and community leaders and elected
officials, officials at Pierce College and the Los Angeles
Community College District (LACCD) will turn on a giant light
switch to officially begin operating a specially designed solar
electric parking system and microturbines.
Pierce College will also detail how it is distinguishing itself
as an environmental leader through several other innovative
green power improvements throughout the campus.

VISUALS: Press conference will be held under the solar electric
parking system. Speakers will turn on a giant light switch at
the close of the press conference. Several oversized posters
will detail how solar electric systems and microturbines
work.
BACKGROUND: The new solar electric system and microturbines will
generate enough kilowatt hours of electricity to power 600
homes and save taxpayers $260,000 each year. The new
systems are part of the college's green power program to
improve energy efficiency and sustainability on campus.
The improvements are part of the college's 10-year master
plan to transform the college into a state-of-the-art
campus to better serve students and community for years to
come.
