In a live national A&E Network educational special broadcast on Jan 6, 12 middle school students from around the country interviewed "George Washington," portrayed by historical interpreter William Sommerfield (in costume), at Washington's home in Mount Vernon, VA. Harry Smith (wearing glasses) hosted A&E's Just Ask George live presentation, in the dining room of the Washington mansion. The students were selected, from among 2,000 entries, for submitting the most interesting questions for George Washington. The questions explore such issues as Washington's stand on slavery, why after two terms he gave up the presidency, the travails of Valley Forge Valley Forge, on the Schuylkill River, SE Pa., NW of Philadelphia. There, during the American Revolution, the main camp of the Continental Army was established (Dec., 1777–June, 1778) under the command of Gen. George Washington.  and their impact on the course of the war, and the challenges of running an independent nation. The broadcast anchors an educational outreach whose centerpiece is the A&E original movie, The Crossing, premiering Monday, Jan. 10, 8pm ET/7pm CT/9pm PT.
