WHAT: A media briefing and lunch to formally announce Wales and the
Celtic Manor as the host and venue of the 2010 Ryder Cup, and
to unveil details of a $70 million program to generate
golf-related development and tournament play in Wales over the
coming years. Wales, a small nation within the United Kingdom,
has never before hosted the Ryder Cup matches, one of the most
prestigious golf tournaments in the world, pitting Europe's
best players against their U.S. counterparts since 1927.
WHO: Rhodri Morgan, the First Minister of the National Assembly for
Wales, is a graduate of Oxford and Harvard Universities. A
Member of Parliament at Westminster from 1987 to 2001, Morgan
is in New York to lead in the celebration of a special Welsh
Weekend honoring St. David, the patron saint of Wales.
Terry Matthews, Chairman of The Celtic Manor Resort, is also
Chairman and CEO of March Networks. A highly successful
telecommunications entrepreneur, Matthews has overseen the
investment of more than $200 million in Celtic Manor,
currently home to the $1.6 million Celtic Manor Resort Wales
Open.
Richard Hills is the Director of the European Ryder Cup.
