BACKGROUND: In connection with the upcoming Sawatdee 20th
anniversary, Supenn Harrison, founder and owner, has published
a cookbook entitled, "Sawatdee Cookbook: Thai It You'll Like
It". The 48-page cookbook is a collection of more than 30
authentic Thai recipes for soups, salads, main dishes and
desserts. Included are recipes for the legendary "Sue's Egg
Rolls," which were a mainstay at the Minnesota State Fair for
26 years, and aromatic Holy Basil Supreme, Supenn's personal
favorite. Complete with photographs, the Sawatdee Cookbook
opens with a memoir of Supenn's childhood, then moves on to
the Sawatdee story, how Supenn built the business, how she
trains her staff and what fun it is to serve the rich and
famous including Julia Child, Neil Diamond, Steve Tyler, Mick
Jagger and, the Twin Cities' own, Prince.
Sawatdee restaurants dish up authentic Thai food at a
reasonable price along with a glimpse of Thailand via warm
hospitality and appealing Asian-style ambiance. The first
Sawatdee restaurant, located in St. Paul, opened in 1983.
Sawatdee is a long-time Twin Cities favorite having been
recognized as the "Best Thai Restaurant" since 1988 by
Minneapolis-St. Paul Magazine; voted "Best Thai" by City Pages
since 1990; "Reader's Choice: Best Hot and Spicy Food" in 1986
by Minneapolis-St. Paul Magazine; "Best Thai" by Minnesota
Monthly in 1992 and Sawatdee Bar and Cafe was named "Best Thai
Restaurant in Twin Cities" by City Pages in 1998. There are
nine restaurants in the Sawatdee family located in the Twin
Cities and St. Cloud.
