Metropolitan Detroit's foremost high school seniors will get a big salute for their scholastic achievements at Cobo Convention Center Monday night, May 1, at 8:00 p.m.

More than 2,500 people are expected to fill Cobo's Riverview Ballroom for the 52nd annual Honors Convocation sponsored by the Detroit Association of Phi Beta Kappa Phi Beta Kappa: see fraternity.

. They will include the area's top students, their parents, and their teachers and counselors.

Jennifer M. Granholm, Michigan's attorney general, will be the featured speaker on the program. Music will be provided by the Wayne State University Wayne State University, at Detroit, Mich.; state supported; coeducational; established 1956 as a successor to Wayne Univ. (formed 1934 by a merger of five city colleges).  Wind Symphony.

"We are honoring the brightest and most promising young people in our area," said Carol P. Klein, president of the Detroit Association of Phi Beta Kappa, which comprises members of the national honorary society residing in the Detroit area. "These students have earned their recognition as future leaders Future Leaders is a UK schools-led charitable organisation that aims to widen the pool of talented leaders especially for urban challenging secondary schools. It was founded in March 2006 by Nat Wei, a former founder of Teach First.  and scholars by doing what it takes to rank at the head of their classes."

"For more than half a century, our program has saluted the area's top-ranking graduates in the presence of their parents, teachers, counselors, and also their academic peers from the entire metropolitan area," she said.

More than 3,200 graduating seniors in 150 public, private, and parochial high schools in southeastern Michigan who maintained a 3.75 grade point in their academic classes are invited to the convocation and will receive certificates of recognition from the Detroit Association of Phi Beta Kappa.
