WHAT: To expand its internationally recognized research
capabilities, Los Angeles Orthopaedic Hospital is joining with
UCLA to break ground for the construction of a
95,000-square-foot basic science research facility on the UCLA
Westwood campus. Focusing on molecular biology and genetics,
the research has the potential to effectively eliminate many
of the devastating crippling disorders affecting the thousands
of children that Orthopaedic Hospital sees each year.
With state-of-the-art laboratories and support services, the
Orthopaedic Hospital research center will provide clinical
care, educate medical students and pursue medical research
with regard to musculoskeletal disorders. Designed by the
renowned Cesar Pelli & Associates, the center will support the
expanded research capacity and collaboration between
researchers from Orthopaedic Hospital and UCLA's Los Angeles
campus, while facilitating the discovery of new therapies for
debilitating injuries and permanent cures of musculoskeletal
disorders.
Together, Orthopaedic Hospital and UCLA are developing a world
class, state-of-the-art comprehensive research program in the
field of orthopaedic medicine, offering new hope for children
and adults with crippling disorders. For more than 90 years,
Orthopaedic Hospital has been a recognized world leader in
patient care, teaching and research in orthopaedic medicine.
