ADVISORY/Online News Gains Popularity.Business Editors ADVISORY... --(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 27, 2001 TOPIC: According to a new study by Jupiter Media Matrix, the number of people visiting news websites grew 14.7 percent from July 2000 to last month. According to a story in the New York Times, the survey shows that already popular national and world-oriented outlets, such as MSNBC.com and Washingtonpost.com, are the sites seeing more hits, while many smaller, more locally-focused news sites are growing at a much slower rate or not at all. The surge in e-users doesn't appear to be hurting print editions, though, the story said. A recent survey of 4,917 people by Belden Associates claims that only 3 percent of users in four markets said a news Web site had prompted them to give up the print newspaper, and 6 percent said they had started a subscription to the print newspaper after reading the online version, the story said.
