What: With daylight savings time approaching, Drexel University
will be re-setting its rare 18th century tall-case clock,
one of the world's most complex clocks. It was made in
Philadelphia by astronomer and clockmaker David Rittenhouse
in 1773. Images of conservator Eric Chandlee Wilson winding
the Clock and setting it forward can be used by the news
media for daylight savings time stories when DST goes into
effect on the weekend of April 4.
A world-class treasure and source of pride for
Philadelphians, the Rittenhouse Clock:
-- Records time in seconds, minutes, hours and days.
-- Has 16 sets of chimes.
-- Plays 10 tunes.
Audio: The Clock strikes every 15 minutes and on the hour. Audio of
the 10 tunes can be made available upon request.
Visuals: The conservator winding the Clock... setting the Clock an
hour forward... the backdrop of portraits from The Drexel
Collection on display in the Westphal Gallery.
