In an effort to end employment discrimination against immigrant workers and others who appear or sound "foreign," the Office of Special Counsel for Immigration immigration, entrance of a person (an alien) into a new country for the purpose of establishing permanent residence. Motives for immigration, like those for migration generally, are often economic, although religious or political factors may be very important.  Related Unfair Employment Practices (OSC O.S.C. n. short for Order to Show Cause. (See: Order to Show Cause) ), Civil Rights Division, U.S. Department of Justice and the United Food and Commercial Workers The United Food and Commercial Workers International Union is a labor union representing approximately 1.4 million workers in the United States and Canada in many industries, including agriculture, health care, meatpacking, poultry and food processing, manufacturing, textile and  International Union (UFCW UFCW United Food and Commercial Workers ) will announce an educational program designed to teach approximately 100,000 immigrant workers in the meat packing, food processing and poultry industries about their employment rights under U.S. law. The grant to UFCW is the largest of 11 grants awarded by OSC this year.

OSC is the only government office whose sole mission is to enforce federal protections against national origin and citizenship status discrimination faced by foreign-born workers or workers of foreign ancestry.

UFCW represents more than 250,000 workers in these industries, and a large percentage of meatpacking meatpacking or meat-processing, wholesale business of buying and slaughtering animals and then processing and distributing their carcasses to retailers. The livestock industry is among the largest in the world.  workers are of Latino or Asian ancestry and are often discriminated against during the employment verification (I-9) process. With funds from OSC, UFCW will provide anti-discrimination training to plant workers and union employees to provide them with the tools to educate and communicate directly with documented workers about their rights under the Immigration and Nationality Act Immigration and Nationality Act may refer to:
