ADVISORY/Old and Unused Electronics Cluttering Your Home? Recycling Opportunity at Best Buy Corporate Campus and in Woodbury.News/Assignment Editors ADVISORY...for Friday-Saturday (July July: see month. 18-19) --(BUSINESS WIRE) Old Computers, TVs and Other Items to be Collected Two Days Only
What: For two days only, the Best Buy Corporate Campus and the
Woodbury Best Buy store in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, will
serve as recycling collection sites for unwanted electronic
items. The special events will take place in the respective
parking lots on Friday, July 18 from 10 am. to 5 p.m. and
Saturday, July 19 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Due to the high cost of removing hazardous lead from picture
tubes, there will be a $10 fee for each computer monitor and TV.
Large televisions (over 27") and consoles will have a $20
charge. All other electronics will be recycled at no charge.
Accepted items: Not accepted items:
--------------- -------------------
Computers, monitors, Microwaves, smoke detectors,
printers, fax machines, TVs, major household appliances,
stereos, VCRs, camcorders, such as refrigerators and air
cellular phones, conditioners
inkjet/printer cartridges,
rechargeable batteries
Why: The proper disposal of electronic items is an important issue
for many people. Computers and televisions can contain materials
such as lead and mercury that can be harmful to the environment
if simply thrown in the trash. With 4 to 7 pounds of lead used
to make an average picture tube, a few discarded TV sets can be
as hazardous as a typical car battery. People wanting to get rid
of electronics while remaining responsible often are unsure
about what to do or where to go.
Best Buy believes that everyone has a part in completing the
recycling loop - that's why Best Buy became the first consumer
electronics retailer to have a national recycling program. The
Company started the program in 2001 to provide a simple, fun and
convenient program for recycling electronics that protects the
environment while raising awareness of recycling options. Best
Buy has helped consumers recycle over 600,000 pounds of
electronics in an environmentally responsible way since they
began their program.
