What: Live demonstrations of the latest in race timing technology,
presented by Nextel Communications and ChampionChip. See the
system in action as runners, wearing a small transponder chip
affixed to their shoes, run over the mats that will be set up at
strategic locations along the Marathon race route. After
crossing the mat, a device records the runner and registers
his/her time, then instantly transmits the information via a
Nextel wireless phone. On race day, this information will be
transmitted to timing trailers located at the finish line,
where the information will be formatted and posted to the
official Marathon web site, www.chicagomarathon.com.
When: Friday, October 5 at 1:30 p.m. and Saturday,
October 6 at 2:30 p.m.
What: Mark Coogan, a 1996 U.S. Olympian and renowned marathon runner,
will sign autographs at the Nextel booth.
When: Saturday, October 6 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Where: Both activities will take place at The LaSalle Bank Health and
Fitness Expo - McCormick Place North.
