), together with the United Steelworkers of America, is holding a news conference today, following two days of meetings by about 150 representatives of unions from 20 aluminum producing and manufacturing countries.

With recent consolidation within the industry, including the takeover by Canadian Alcan Inc. of France's Pechiney, the World Aluminum Conference focused on collective bargaining strategies and collaboration among all unions organized within the world aluminum industry.

The news conference will include statements by IMF General Secretary Marcello Malentacchi, United Steelworkers' International President Leo Gerard, Steelworkers' Canadian National Director Lawrence McBrearty, Quebec Director Michel Arsenault, and Michael Leahy, president of the IMF's Non-Ferrous Metals Department.
