What: In higher education, convocation marks the formal beginning
of the new academic year. Convocation's pageantry and
symbolism are reflected in the cap and gown worn by
professors. At Drexel, Convocation is held on Founders Day
to honor the combined histories of the three institutions
that form today's Drexel University.
Drexel will introduce two new traditions this year. Students
and professors will walk across campus in a colorful
procession. Provost Harvill Eaton will award his Medal of
Excellence to an undergraduate, graduate and doctoral
student in recognition of their academic success.
The Drexel University ROTC will present the Colors as The
Star-Spangled Banner is sung. The Drexel University vocal
jazz ensemble and chorus will each perform. Following
Convocation, a gala reception will be held in the Great
Court in the Main Building.
When: Tuesday, October 7, 2003, 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
