ADVISORY/Natus Medical Hosts Newborn Hearing Screening Seminar.
--(BW HealthWire)-- -0-
DATE/TIME: Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998, 8:15 a.m. -- 4 p.m.
EVENT: Newborn Hearing Screening seminar
DESCRIPTION: Each year, more than 24,000 children are born in the
U.S. with some level of hearing loss. Numerous studies,
including one published this week in Pediatrics, the
official Journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics,
show that the earlier hearing loss is identified and
intervention is provided, the greater opportunity the
child has to learn and progress at a rate comparable to
children with normal hearing.
As a result of legislation signed in September 1998 by
Gov. Wilson, by Dec. 31, 2002, approximately 70% of all
infants born in California will be offered a hearing
screen before being discharged from the hospital. The
"California Newborn Hearing Screening Program" requires
that a newborn hearing screen be offered to all infants
born in California Children's Services (CCS) approved
hospitals and those cared for in neonatal intensive
care units which have CCS approval.
Natus Medical, manufacturer of the Algo 2e Newborn
Hearing Screener, is hosting a full-day seminar for
healthcare professionals on how to establish a
successful screening program.
