Business/Technology Editors

ADVISORY...for Saturday Saturday: see week; Sabbath. , Aug. 31

--(BUSINESS WIRE)

Computerworld Security Reporter to Discuss Threat to the

Private Sector, Defense Strategies on "All Things Considered All Things Considered (ATC) is a news radio program in the United States, broadcast on the National Public Radio network. It was the first news program on the network, and is broadcast live worldwide through several outlets. "

WHO: Dan Verton, senior writer for IDG's Computerworld,
a weekly news magazine for IT leaders, and author of
       "The Hacker Diaries."

WHAT: In a nationally broadcast segment of National Public
Radio's (NPR) "All Things Considered" program,
Verton will provide commentary on the threat
cyberterrorism poses to the nation, with particular
focus on risks facing the private sector. In
       addition to distinguishing between cyberterrorism
and cyber-graffiti, Verton will outline what, if
anything, can be done to defend against the danger
       of computer-based terrorism.

WHEN: Saturday, August 31, 2002

WHERE: Tune in to:

       WBUR-FM 90.9 in Boston at 5 p.m. EDT

       WAMU-FM 88.5 in Washington, D.C. at 6 p.m. EDT

       WBEZ-FM 91.5 in Chicago at 4 p.m. CDT

       WQED-FM 88.5 in San Francisco at 5 p.m. PDT

WHY: According to Verton, cyberterrorism is "the
targeting of our nation's infrastructure at its
weakest point - the computer networks that control
and manage critical services, such as electrical
       power, telecommunications, emergency services, air
traffic control, water systems, chemical facilities,
etc. . . . However, cyberterrorism is not likely to
occur in a vacuum. It will most likely be
accompanied by a simultaneous physical attack
against civilian population centers, where the loss
of those critical services will significantly
       complicate search and rescue efforts."
