James Beard (May 5, 1903–January 21, 1985) was an American chef and food writer. James Beard is recognized by many as the father of American gastronomy.
 Foundation's Chef of the Year Award, are expected to participate in a May 8 press conference to launch the Keep Nature Natural campaign. This national campaign demands labeling and stricter safety and environmental regulations of genetically engineered foods (GE foods). The 4:15 p.m. press conference will occur prior to the James Beard Foundation award The James Beard Foundation Awards were established in 1990 and are often called "The Oscars of Food." [1]

Held on the first Monday in May, the Awards ceremony honors the finest chefs, restaurants, journalists, cookbook authors, restaurant designers, and electronic

The chefs will be joining the Keep Nature Natural campaign, a national initiative to flood the FDA with comments asking for stricter regulation of GE foods. At the heart of the campaign is a legal petition filed by the Center for Food Safety, which demands the establishment of stringent pre-market safety testing regulations and mandatory labeling for GE foods. The Center for Food Safety has ongoing lawsuits against both the FDA and EPA EPA eicosapentaenoic acid.

 concerning the safety of GE foods. An unprecedented coalition of more than 50 consumer, environmental, scientific, farm and health groups support the petition and the campaign. In addition, Whole Foods Market and Wild Oats, the nation's largest natural food retailers, have signed on to the campaign and will encourage customers to comment to the FDA.
