ADVISORY/NFL Stars Set to Tee Off May 12 At KMC Telecom/Ricky Proehl Charity Golf Classic to Benefit Children of Amos Cottage.

National Football League Most Valuable Player Kurt Warner and All-Pro Running Back Marshall Faulk head a list of more than 250 golfers set to tee off Friday, May 12 at the KMC Telecom/ Ricky Proehl NFL Charity Golf Classic, which supports Winston-Salem's Amos Cottage Children's Rehabilitation Hospital.

The tournament will be held May 12, 2000 at the Grandover Resort and Conference Center in Greensboro. Tee-off times are 8 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. The event starts with a pairings party Thursday, May 11 and concludes with a silent auction and awards dinner the evening of Friday, May 12. Dozens of NFL players and local radio and TV personalities are expected to participate in the tournament.

KMC Telecom, a leading provider of telecommunications services in Winston-Salem and Greensboro, is title sponsor for the tournament now in its fifth year. The event helps underwrite the work of Amos Cottage, which provides care for children who require long-term or lifelong therapy for their disabilities as well as outpatient therapy for children whose parents cannot afford to pay.

Ricky Proehl is a graduate of Wake Forest University and a 12-year NFL veteran wide receiver for the Superbowl Champion St. Louis Rams. Since visiting Amos Cottage for the first time in 1996, Proehl has devoted his off-season time and energy to raising more than $300,000 for the facility. "It's a wonderful environment that is truly warm and caring," Proehl said. "I'm proud to be involved with Amos Cottage and to help in any way I can."
