This is done for various reasons, not the least of which is because the person has committed a crime. NT AFIS will finally bring NEC's advanced AFIS technology to small police departments around the country. RangeFinder is a facial recognition system A facial recognition system is a computer application for automatically identifying or verifying a person from a digital image or a video frame from a video source. One of the ways to do this is by comparing selected facial features from the image and a facial database. that will rapidly and automatically identify individuals in two dimensions. Using two or three-dimensional imagery, RangeFinder can scan everything from cars to valuable museum items in three dimensions. The RangeFinder can even predict changes in appearance such as aging, hairstyle and weight gain or loss for identification purposes. RaPID is NEC's new handheld, wireless fingerprint identification device that gives officers in the field a completely portable AFIS tool. This palm-sized device will give law enforcement officials immediate identification capabilities on the street and at crime scenes. In addition to these three prototypes, NEC will also be demonstrating the latest versions of its TouchPass and Palmprint identification systems.
