It is the largest city in Nevada and the center of one of the fastest-growing urban areas in the United States. ADVISORY...for May 7-9 --(BUSINESS WIRE) WHAT: Atheros Communications will demonstrate the state of the art in wireless Local Area Networking (LAN) at NetWorld+Interop. Its Booth #549 will contain five sections devoted to: combo IEEE 802.11a/g/b technology; advanced wireless security; the use of OFDM at 2.4 GHz; a joint demonstration of 802.11a interoperability with Cisco Systems, and a Customer Showcase highlighting exciting new products from Atheros' growing list of partners. There will be live product demonstrations at each of the first four sections, along with reference designs and customer products on display. WHERE: NetWorld+Interop Show, Las Vegas Convention Center, May 7-9 in Booth #549. SIGNIFICANCE: Atheros Communications is the leading developer of networking technologies for secure, high-performance wireless LANs. Its products are based on the IEEE 802.11 family of standards and use the company's unique "Radio-on-a-Chip" (RoC) networking technology to deliver the fastest, most cost-effective, robust and energy-efficient wireless LAN products in the industry. As the industry innovator and market-share leader in wireless OFDM technology compliant with the IEEE 802.11 specifications, Atheros is driving transparent connections among electronic devices in the enterprise, home, public places (such as airports, hotels, and universities), and on the road. Additionally, major new customers will announce Atheros-based products at NetWorld+Interop. DETAILS OF EXHIBITS AND DEMONSTRATIONS:
1. Combo 802.11a/g/b Wireless LAN Chipset (AR5001X) -- This
three-chip CMOS solution, introduced in March 2002, is the first
to support all of the major IEEE 802.11 family of standards: the
5-GHz 802.11a standard, the legacy 2.4-GHz 802.11b standard, and
the OFDM enhancement for 2.4 GHz in the draft 802.11g standard.
The product will be featured in a demonstration of seamless
roaming between 802.11a and 802.11b networks. Other new products
from Atheros that will be demonstrated for the first time at
NetWorld+Interop include a Second-Generation 802.11a Chipset
(AR5001A) enhanced to include support for advanced security,
international features, increased network system capacity, higher
integration to reduce costs, and even better performance than
before; and an Integrated Enterprise-Quality Access Point Chipset
(AR5001AP), the most highly integrated solution ever offered for
wireless LAN access points at any frequency.
2. Advanced Wireless Security -- The new Atheros chipsets feature a
comprehensive security solution covering four key areas: Advanced
Encryption Standard (AES) encryption, 802.1x Authentication,
Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), and Virtual LANs (VLANs).
3. "OFDM Everywhere" -- The IEEE has endorsed the broad adoption of
OFDM (orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) for wireless
LANs because of the higher speeds that result from its efficient
use of spectrum and because of its resistance to multipath and
other types of interference. Atheros believes strongly in the
superiority of OFDM and therefore has made it the basis of its
product-development strategy. Atheros will demonstrate OFDM at 5
GHz (802.11a) and 2.4 GHz (draft 802.11g) at N+I.
4. Atheros/Cisco Systems Interoperability -- Cisco and Atheros will
demonstrate 802.11a interoperability between Cisco products and
products based on silicon from Atheros Communications.
5. Customer Showcase -- This exhibit will highlight new and existing
products from Atheros' partners, including: Accton, Actiontec,
ALPS, D-Link, Intel, Intermec, Linksys, Netgear, Philips, Proxim,
SMC Networks, Sony, TDK, UltraDevices, and others.
