Leading advocates for women, children and the environment are joining forces to conduct a national campaign to educate Americans about the importance of international family planning family planning

Use of measures designed to regulate the number and spacing of children within a family, largely to curb population growth and ensure each family’s access to limited resources.
. The campaign -- entitled "PLANet" -- will invest $13 million in the first year of a five-year effort. The outreach is being funded by the David and Lucile Packard Foundation David and Lucile Packard Foundation, private philanthropic institution that funds nonprofit organizations. It was founded in 1964 by David Packard (1912–96), co-founder of Hewlett-Packard Co., and his wife Lucile (1914–87). , the second largest philanthropy in the nation.

WHAT: News conference and presentation of the PLANet campaign, its coalition, advertisements, symbol, and web site, www.familyplanet.org.

WHO: The event will be attended by administration officials, members of national and international non-governmental organizations, philanthropists, business leaders, and members of Congress, and will include remarks by PLANet partners about their innovative collaboration and unique perspectives on this issue:

The PLANet campaign is the first major effort to educate Americans about international family planning through the use of paid and public service media, publicity, national and local events, direct mail, and grassroots efforts, among other activities.
