WHAT: For news-media crews who could not attend the 10 a.m.,
April 25 introduction or those who would like to report
during live newscasts, the Monrovia Police Department is
offering additional "ride-along" opportunities throughout the
day for a new, high-tech traffic-signal warning system
designed to protect motorists when emergency vehicles speed
through intersections. Developed by E-ViEWS Safety Systems
Inc. with assistance from NASA/JPL, the system utilizes
advanced intersection-signal pre-emption technology and
lighted warning signs with flashing icons.

WHY: In the United States, emergency vehicles are involved in
15,000 accidents annually while responding to calls,
resulting in 500 fatalities and 8,000 injuries. The emergency
vehicle early-warning safety system was developed by E-ViEWS
to save lives, prevent injuries and speed services.
VISUALS: The news media are invited to ride along in Monrovia police
and fire vehicles during a "Code 3" demonstration of the
E-ViEWS system on Huntington Drive. Visuals will include fire
trucks and police cars, with lights and sirens operating,
racing through pre-empted signals and flashing warning signs.
