WHAT: After an 18-year hiatus, Disney's Mickey Mouse will once
again float above the streets of New York in the MACY'S
Thanksgiving Day Parade. The newly designed and created
Mickey balloon -- standing 40 feet high, 66 feet long and
35 feet wide -- will be a hard mouse to miss when he opens
the 74th Annual MACY'S Thanksgiving Day Parade as lead
balloon.

BACKGROUND: Mickey Mouse is Disney's most recognized entertainer
and made his debut in the 1928 cartoon "Steamboat
Willie," which premiered in New York City. Disney's
Mickey Mouse is a global ambassador of goodwill and
has delighted people of all ages around the world
for more than 70 years. This year the entertainment
icon will lead MACY'S 74th Annual Thanksgiving Day
Parade into the new millennium.
MACY'S Thanksgiving Day Parade has been an American
tradition for more than 70 years as New Yorkers and
people across the country gather together to enjoy the
annual festivities. Each year since 1927, on
Thanksgiving Day people from all walks of life take
part in this most famous of parades down New York's
Great White Way.
